You’ve just finished unpacking and settling into your new house or apartment. However, it doesn’t quite end there. There are still things that need to be changed and updated – such as your new address! Even though you may think that this can wait, you actually need to act swiftly – your ID and driver’s license need to be updated within 30 days! Other things, including your mailing address and subscriptions, need to be updated to. We have compiled this short checklist that will hopefully help you stay on track with all of the updates that need to be made once you’re finished with your relocation!
Update your mailing address
First and foremost, you should update your mailing address. This is very important, as you will need to receive bills, mail, etc. You can either do this by going to the official USPS.com website, or by simply going to your local post office and requesting to make a change there.
Update the address on your driver’s license
It is important to know that you only have 30 days to update your new address on your driver’s license. Otherwise, you may run into some trouble. A website you can use for this purpose is DMV.com. If you want, you can also do this in person.
Update the address on your ID
Just like your driver’s license, your ID information needs to be updated as well! You can update your new address online, using DMV.com, or in person. The choice is completely up to you! Remember that you only have 30 days to do this, so plan ahead.
Let your relatives and close ones know
Most of your friends and family member would have already been notified about your relocation. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they know your new address. In order to make it possible for them to send you any kind of mail, make sure that you give them your new address! You can do this online, by sending a group message to everyone, or you can privately message everyone separately. It is up to you!
Notify your clubs and organizations
Do you have a membership at a club or an organization that sends monthly mail? Make sure that you let them know that you’ve changed your address if you would like to continue receiving their mail. If you want to discontinue your membership, make sure to notify them, because otherwise, the mail may be sent to your old address!
Catalog or magazine subscription address
Do you receive monthly magazines or catalogs? If yes, it is important to notify them that your address has been changed. You wouldn’t want to be charged for your monthly subscription and not receive the new magazine or catalog copies!
